Old school. That's the way I feel about Herb & Thelmas. It's hard to believe that I lived in the Cincinnati area for nearly 30 years and had never visited this fine establishment until earlier this year.
A good friend suggested we meet for lunch there and when I walked in and gave the place a once over, it felt like I stepped into 1979. The place probably hasn't changed much since then and other than a television, is relatively untouched by most technologies. An example of this is that they are a cash only joint, which usually bothers me but something about it was endearing here.
The guy behind the bar was incredibly kind and the burger he made for me was excellent and right off the grill. Not to mention everything on the menu is not far from 1979 prices either, you can get a beer, a dog, a burger and get out for less than 10$.
The only negatives I can see that keep it from a 5 star are the credit cards thing, there were alot of smokers puffing away and parking can be tricky. But if you let it add to the overall charm of the place, you will be back.
