Tuesday Market on Fountain Square

Fountain Square

How can the popular Strauss & Troy Market on the Square be considered a secret? I wouldn't have believed it but two weeks ago I invited two coworkers to join me there for lunch. Both have worked with me downtown for years. Both said, "I don't know what that is, but o.k." Both are now fans of the Market, held every Tuesday during the summer.

I had stopped by for lunch by myself the previous week and although my traditional crepe from Taste of Belgium was delicious (better than It's Just Crepes, which I also love) I opted for one of Caitlin's burgers, as did both my coworkers. Cooking with Caitlin varies the tastes and toppings every week and this week's featured burger was stuffed with homemade ricotta and topped with a balsamic reduction. It was delicious. I tried to dab up every drop of balsamic on my plate with my bun. Normally the burgers come with a side of SunChips but on this hot summer afternoon, watermelon slices were being served on the side. Yum!

Other delicious choices from the vendors on the Square included mango smoothies and fried pickles. There are a lot of other lunch items I haven't tried yet, but which look very appetizing. There are also a few produce booths where you can pick up fresh fruit and vegetables.

Great secret, Linda!

The Chief knows where he's going for lunch on Tuesday.
