Sure enough the group was founded right here in Greater Cincinnati. Daniel Carter Beard founded the Sons of Daniel Boone in 1905; that group would become known as the Boy Scouts of America. A life-size statue of Beard stands in front of his boyhood home in Covington, which is a National Historic Landmark. And, of course, the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge, aka the "Big Mac Bridge" (I-471 across the Ohio River), was named for him. Guess that’s kind of obvious, huh?
